ZANSKAR TREK

 

Zangla - Jugtak Trek (21 Days / 09 Days Trek)

 

Zangla Jugtak trek starts from Zangla in Zanskar Valley and ends at Jugtak in Rupshu Valley. Zangla unofficial capital of Zanskar Region where Royal family accommodates. During this trek we'll come accross some cold deserted villages like Shade, Murshun & Yurshun. This trek can be done mid of August till end of September.

 

Day 01: Arrive Delhi

Arrive in Delhi, Transfer to hotel for few hours.

 

Days 02: Flight Delhi - Leh

Early morning transfer to domestic Airport for fly to Leh. Arrive Leh, transfer to hotel. Day is at complete leisure to get you fully acclimatize with the altitude. Overnighte at hotel in Leh. (3500 m)

 

Days 03: Drive Leh – Stok – Matho – Leh

After breakfast drive to Stok via Choklamsar by crossing a bridge on the river Indus. In Stok, visit the royal palace of present king and queen which was constructed by the king Tsespal Tondup Namgyal in 1825. Inside the palace, great collection of ancient royal ornaments, Thankas and old statues. After visit Stok Palace, drive to Matho village, 10 km from Stok. Matho monastery built by Lama Tumgpa Dorje in 13th century. The famous two oracles (known as Rongtsan), who were invited from Tibet by the founder of this monastery still make appearance during the festival of monastery. After visit Matho, drive back to Leh. In the evening visit Shanti Stupa and Sankar Monastery in Leh. Overnight at Guest House in Leh.

 

Days 04: Drive Leh – Shey – Thisey – Hemis – Leh

Morning: After breakfast, drive to Hemis monastery which is 45 km far from Leh and it takes 90 minute drive. The great Mahasiddha Staktsang Raspa along with great ancestor Singey Namgyal builds this biggest monastery in 16th century. After visiting this monastery, drive back to Thiksey monastery, which is 27 km from Hemis. This monastery is the oldest monastery of Gelugpa School in Ladakh. The great Lama Paldan Shesrap build in 14th century. Here you can see the big statue of the Future Buddha. After visiting this monastery drive back to Leh via visiting Shey Palace. Overnight at Guest House in Leh.

 

Days 05: Drive Leh – Alchi – Lamayuru - Mulbek - Kargil (225 kms)

Morning after breakfast, drive to Kargil via visiting Alchi monastery, Lamayuru monastery and Mulbek chamba (9m rock curved statue of Maitreya Buddha). Today you drive on Srinagar- Leh highway till Kargil. On the way you have spectacular and magnificent view of landscape and its beautiful mountains, sometime you pass through imposing gorge and you pass across Magnetic hill, confluence of Indus and Zanskar before Nimoo village; beautiful and charming villages of Ladakh. Arrive at Alchi (68km from Leh), visit the 1000 years Gelugpa sect monastery. After then continue drive along right bank of Indus River till Khaltsi village. Leave Indus at Khaltsi and continue drive on the highway towards Lamayuru. Halt at Lamayuru to visit Digung sect monastery picturesquely built on hill top overlooking the valley.
After the visit continue drive to Kargil by crossing Fotula (4090m). You pass through as many as charming villages as far as Kargil. Halt at Mulbek for few minutes to visit 9m high rock curved statue of Maitreya Buddha. Overnight at hotel in Kargil. ( 2900m)

 

Day 06: Drive Kargil – Rangdum (140 kms / 7 hrs)

Today you have long journey also but en-route you have unforgettable, enchanting and awesome view of landscape of Suru valley and its surrounding magnificent mountain peaks. As usual, morning after breakfast, drive Kargil to Rangdum passing through beautiful villages of Kargil. En-route, you enjoy the view of highest mountain massif snow cover peaks in the India Nun (7135m) and Kun (7077m) and you pass across several beautiful and charming villages (inhabitants are almost Muslim). Arrive at Rangdum village. Overnight Fixed Camp.

 

Day 07: Drive Rangdum – Padum (105 kms / 6-7hrs)

Post breakfast drive to Rangdum monastery. Visit the picturesque monastery founded on hill top with enchanting view of the valley, by Lama Gelek Yeshe Takpa 200 years ago. Rangdum is physically located in the Suru Valley and culturally it is part of Zanskar. From the monastery, you have wonderful panoramic view of landscape and Randum village. After then continue drive by crossing pentsila pass (4400m) on the way. Halt at top of pass to take photo of wonderful view of landscape then continue drive as far as Padum. Overnight camp in Padum. (3590m)

 

Day 08: Drive Padum- Sani – Bardan – Zongkul – Padum

Morning after breakfast, drive Padum to Sani to visit the most famous monastery wherein you visit the sacred statues of Buddhas and Boddhisattavas. This monastery located and picturesquely built in the middle of field and houses. After the visit, proceed to Zongkul monastery and then continue drive to Bardan monastery. On the way you enjoy the view of beautiful and charming villages of Zangskar valley. After visiting the Bardan village and its monastery, drive back to Padum. Evening, explore Padum (the capital of Zanskar. Overnight in Padum.

 

Day 09: Drive Padum – Karsha – Stongde – Zangla

Morning after breakfast, drive to Zangla village via visiting Karsha and Stongde monastery. Karsha (Pair of White i.e., Outer white and Inner white) is 7 km form padum. Visit Gelugpa sect and largest monastery of Zanskar. The monastery picturesquely built on hill top with imposing view of enchanting valley and river, by Great Lama Phagspa Shesrap (the translator of Zanskar). From the monastery, take pleasure of awesome and spectacular view of the capital of zanskar (Padum) and its surrounding mountains. After the visit continue drive to Stongde village. Visit the beautiful monastery built on hill top, overlooking the valley, by Lama Marpa 950 years ago. Approximately 60 monks are residing in this monastery. After the visit, continue drive to Zangla. Afternoon, explore the Zangla village and interact with the villagers and evening visit a local house. Overnight; Camp. (3480m)

 

Day 10: Trek Zangla – Zangla Sumdo (5/6 hrs)

Leave camp after breakfast for Zangla Sumdo and continue the trek for half hours on the right bank of Zanskar River then turn left towards gorge. Here you cross the river which comes from the gorge several times till you reach at Zangla Sumdo. Overnight at Camp. (3850m)

 

Day 11: Trek Zangla Sumdo – Ningrila (5150m) – Niri Doksa/ Shade Pullu (6/7 hrs)

Leave camp after breakfast to Niri Doksa, take left valley and start ascent towards Niri la (5150m). It will take us 3 hrs to reach Niri la. While enjoying the awesome and spectacular view of landscape, you descend downwards easily for one and half hour till you reach at Niri Doksa (summer pastureland of Shade Village). Overnight: Camp near the river. (4400m)

 

Day 12: Trek Niri Doksa / Shade Pullu – Lar-la (4850m) – Ningri (7 hrs)

After breakfast, leave camp for Ningri. Follow the trek route and continue easy walk along the left bank of downstream river. Then the route gradually goes up towards the top of Lar-la. Gently ascend up for about two hours, you reach at the top. From the top, enjoy the view of imposing landscape of surrounding mountain. Cross the pass, then easy descent for 2 hrs till you reach at Ningri (summer pastureland of Shade village). Overnight; camp. (4370m)

 

Day 13: Trek Ningri – Gonteng la (5000m) - Shade (6/7 hrs)

Leave camp after breakfast for Shade. Right from the camp, you gradually climb up towards the pass. From the top, take pleasure of awesome and magnificent view of landscape and surrounding snow capped peaks. Cross the top, then gently descend down and continue easy trek as far as Shade village. On the way, you pass across several Nomads with their animals like Yaks, Cows, and Female Yaks etc. Afternoon, visit monastery and in the evening visit local house. Overnight: Camp in Shade village. (4290m)

 

Day 14: Trek Shade – Nialo Kontse base (5/6 hrs)

Morning after breakfast, while enjoying the sunshine and view of awesome towering mountains, continue easy trek along the left bank of river till you reach Tantak village. Visit local monastery then keep on by crossing a river. After the river, take left route and gradually ascend up as far as Base of Nialo-Kontse-la . Overnight: camp. (4300m)

 

Day 15: Trek Base of Nailo Konts – Nailo Kontse-la (4850m) – Gontunda-la (5100m) - Marshun ( 7/8 hrs )

Leave camp after breakfast start assending till you reach at the top of Nialo Kastse-la ( approximately one and half hours of trek) . While enjoying the view of spectacular landscape, continue trek by taking the left cliff of the mountain then small plans for one hour till you reach at base of Gotunda-la. Ascend gradually for one hour till you reach at the top of Guntunda-la. After enjoying the awesome view of huge towering magnificent mountains, descend easily down as far as camp near river. Overnight:Camp. (4000m)

 

Day 16: Trek Marshun – Muneli (6 hrs )

As usual after breakfast, continue easy trek by taking clear route on the left bank of river till you reach at Shun Sumdo Village. Pass the village and take left bank of Tserap River till you reach at Muneli. On the way you cross Zara river which comes from Rupshu Valley. Overnight: camp (4000m)

 

Day 17: Trek Muneli - Satok Village – Tsogmetsik (7 hrs)

Leave camp after breakfast for Tsognetsik along the Tsarap river till you reach at Satok village. From Satok, the route is going up and down. Continue along the route by crossing three ridges ridges (three small passes) as far as Tsogmetsik. Overnight in camp. (4220m)

 

Day 18: Trek Tsognetsik – Juktak(3hrs) then drive to Leh via Taklang-la (5300m)(205 kms/ 8-10hrs)

Leave camp after breakfast continue the trek for 3 hrs till you reach near a motor road at Tak.where you find jeeps are waiting for you to pick up to Leh.From Tak, drive to leh via Taklangla. You cross Taklangla (the world's second highest motorable pass).On the way you may be able to see wild Asses (Tibetan Skyang) across the Tsokar Lake.You have long journey on manali-Leh highway but en-route you see several Nomadic camps, wonderful view of enchanting landscape, awesome view of mountains of mighty Himalaya and several charming villages. Arrive Leh by late afternoon. Overnight at hotel in Leh.

 

Day 19: Leh

The day is free for Rest or Shopping.

 

Day 20: Flight Leh – Delhi

Early morning transfer to Airport to take flight for Delhi. Arrive Delhi, transfer to Hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Delhi.

 

Day 21: Sightseeing (Delhi) & Departure

Morning after breakfast, sightseeing of Old and New Delhi. In the evening, transfer to IGI Airport for return flight.
