Udaipur - Padum Trek (22 Days / 08 Days Trek)

 

Udaipur Padum Trek is one of the tough trek in Ladakh, start from the lush green valley of Udaipur in Hiamchal Pardesh and end in rugged landscape of Zanskar Valley. One of the most striking treks in crossing over to Ladakh from Himachal Pardesh.

 

Day 01: Arrive Delhi

Arrive in Delhi, Transfer to nearby hotel for few hours.

 

Day 2: Delhi -Chandigarh by Train (4 hrs)

Leave early morning, for Shatabadi express train to Chandigarh. Enjoy the journey in the Shatabadi Train till we reach Chandigarh. Arrive to Chandigarh. Transfer to hotel. In afternoon, visit Chandigarh city. Stay overnight at hotel in Chandigarh.

 

Days 03: Drive Chandigarh - Manali (305 kms/ 10hrs)

Early morning drive to Manali. Arrive to Manali. Evening, hike around the Market. Overnight at Hotel.

 

Days 04: In Manali

Day is free or explore around Manali. Overnight at Hotel in Manali.

 

Day 05: Drive Manali – Rohtangla (3978m) - Udaipur (145 km)

After breakfast at hotel, drive to Udaipur with long journey, at the head of lush green of enchanting valley. The road slowly winds up the magnificent and marvelous Rohtang pass. Halt at the top of pass to take pleasure of the panoramic view of surrounding valleys and imposing massif peaks. After the Rohtang pass, the beautiful landscape changes dramatically. The greenery being replaced by the barren hillside across which you find villages with their fields of Barley, Peas and potatoes. While entering in Lahoul-Spiti valley, you find Buddhist monasteries and Stupas dotted in the valley and the people with distinct Tibetan culture.continue drive onward towards Udaipur along the Chenab-river. En-route, visit the temple of Lord Trilokinatth and the temple of Mrikula Devi at Udaipur. Overnight at Camp.(2460m)

 

Day 06: Trek Udaipur – Chamrat (5hrs)

Morning, after breakfast, you start your first day exciting and adventurous trek along the marvelous narrow stunning gorge and enter into the imposing Miyar valley. After going upward, a wooden bridge comes into view. Cross the river over a wooden bridge and continue on the left bank on the valley. The village Chamret, dotted with Mani walls and prayer flags, is the first village of the Miyar valley. After visiting Karpat village then continue up as far as camp. Good and nice campsite across meadow. Overnight at camp. (3030m)

 

Day 07: Trek Chamrat – Urgos (6 hrs)

Breakfast with enchanting view of the valley then continue trek along the clear route that leads through beautiful flowered meadows , Peas and millets fields before re crossing the Miyar.Cross the Miyar river over well constructed bridge towards the village of charpat. Continue gently up as far as Urgos where you find the confluence of valleys leading to the massif peak Menthosa (6443mts). Good across the meadow. Overnight at camp in Urgos village. (3060m)

 

Day 08: Trek Urgos – Tharang (6-7 hrs)

Leave the camp after breakfast to Tharang. The highlights of the day are charming village and awesome view of landscape and view breathtaking huge towering mountains. Continue trek with gentle walk down towards the river floor where you find a bidge. Cross the bridge and continue further 2kms after then you come across charming village Khanjar in the valley on left. The trail passes through wild alluvium admirer before a gradual ascent for 200m, to the highest Tharang. Gently climb up to a beautiful camp site with several magnificent snow clad peaks of Chenab valley. Overnight at camp. (3800m)

 

Day 09: Trek Tharang – Gumbha Nalla (6-7 hrs)

Today trek is little bit strenuous and challenging. Morning after breakfast, gradually ascend up over the rich grazing pasture. Yak flocks of Zanskar may be seen nearby Tralasuma- pass. From campsite of Gumbha Nalla, you enjoy the glimpses of stunning enormous mountain Peaks of Mighty Himalayas. Overnight at camp. (3880m)

 

Day 10: Trek Gumbha Nalla – Camp-1st (6-7 hrs)

Post breakfast with awesome view of landscape, continue trek gently ascending up to the shepherd's camp across the beautiful meadoe locally known as Khaigot. Pass pastureland to open meadows along upstream river crossing. Good and nice campsite with wonderful landscape heading to zanskar. Overnight at camp. (3950m)

 

Day 11: Trek Camp-1st – Camp-2nd (7hrs)

As usual after breakfast, resume you trek to Camp-2nd. Far flung attractive view of Miyar Glacier, long from the camp but you have optional route. You walk across the terminal moraine to the left side of the glacier. Trail turning ups and downs along the increasingly distracted trail. Adventurous and challenging terrain during the trek till the confluence with side glacier. Ultimately you reach at campsite. Overnight at camp in Camp-2nd. (4500m)

 

Day 12: Trek Camp-2nd – Kangla-la (5400m)- Camp-3rd (7 hrs)

Magnificent views of down valley with Menthosa (6443m) at the head of the glacier, a large snow field curves to the east side to the bank of pass. Ascend slowly up from the snow clad field to the pass. Long ascent to Kangla Pass enclosed by rock cliff to the north and snow wall to the south. Enjoy the Awe inspiring exhilarating view of surrounding enormous overwhelming mountains. Cross kangla Pass, easy descent down as far as camp near the confluences of two streams. Overnight at camp (4700m)

 

Day 13: Trek Camp-3rd – Bardan (5hrs)

After breakfast, you follow the trail on the right side of the valley and continue easy trek down in the valley, several crossing of streams and beautiful landscape of the valley. You pass across rocky platitude, and then the trail descends steeply through charming meadows and boulders fields. Keeping Tenasa Tokpo on your right, continue easy descent along with downstream river which flows through grassy meadows. Continue further for two hours above the Tsarap river till you reach at Bardan village. Overnight camp with campfire.

 

Day 14: Drive Bardan – Padum

Morning post breakfast, visit Bardan monastery then drive to Padum (The capital of Zanskar ) along the left of downstream Tsarap river. Arrive Padum, some refreshment then drive to Sani to visit the most famous monastery wherein you visit the sacred statues of Buddhas and Boddhisattavas. This monastery located and picturesquely built in the middle of field and houses. After the visit, proceed to Zongkul monastery. On the way you enjoy the view of beautiful and charming villages of Zangskar valley. Later drive back to Padum. Evening, enjoy walking in and around the market of Padum. Overnight in Padum. (3590m)

 

Day 15: Drive Padum – Karcha – Stongde – Padum

Morning after breakfast, drive to Zangla village via visiting Karsha and Stongde monastery. Karsha (Pair of White i.e., Outer white and Inner white) is 7km form padum. Visit Gelugpa sect and largest monastery of Zanskar. The monastery picturesquely built on hill top with imposing view of enchanting valley and river, by Great Lama Phagspa Shesrap (the translator of Zanskar). From the monastery, take pleasure of awesome and spectacular view of the capital of zanskar (Padum) and its surrounding mountains. After the visit continue drive to Stongde village. Visit the beautiful monastery built on hill top, overlooking the valley, by Lama Marpa 950 years ago. Approximately 60 monks are residing in this monastery. After the visit, continue drive back to Padum. Afternoon, explore the Padum. Overnight hotel.

 

Day 16: Drive Padum – Rangdum – Kargil (245 km)

Today you drive Padum to Kargil (245km). You have long journey but en-route you have unforgettable, enchanting and awesome view of landscape of Suru valley and its surrounding magnificent mountain peaks. As usual, morning after breakfast, drive to Kargil. Visit Rangdum monastery and cross Pentsi-la (4400m). After crossing the Pentse-la pass. You continue drive and then your first glace will be Rangdum monastery. History says that Gelek Yashy Takpa built this picturesque monastery on hill top about 200 years ago. This monastery is physically located in the Suru Valley and culturally it is part of Zanskar. From the monastery, you have wonderful panoramic view of landscape and Randum village. After the visit, drive to Rangdum village where you find some restaurants. Take some refreshment and then continue drive to Kargil. You have the view of highest mountain peak in the region Nun(7135m) and Kun(7077m) and you pass across several beautiful and charming villages (inhabitants are almost Muslim) of Kargil Distric. Arrive Kargil. Overnight at hotel in Kargil. (2900m)

 

Day 17: Drive Kargil – Mulbek – Lamayuru – Alchi - Leh.

Morning after breakfast, drive to Leh via visiting Lamayuru monastery and Mulbek chamba (Rock curved statue of Maitreya Buddha). Today you drive on Srinagar- Leh highway till Leh. Spectacular and magnificent view of landscape and its beautiful mountains like pillar in the blue sky. You pass across many beautiful and charming villages of Ladakh. Arrive Mulbek and visit 9m high rock curved statue of Maitreya Buddha (Future Buddha). After the visit continue drive to Leh via crossing Photo-la. Overnight at Hotel in Leh. (3500m)

 

Day 18: Drive Leh – Matho – Stok – Leh

After breakfast, drive to Stok via Choglamsar by crossing a bridge on the river Indus. In Stok, visit the royal palace of present king and queen which constructed by the king Tsespal Tondup Namgyal in 1825. Inside the palace, you see great collection of ancient royal ornaments, Thankas and old statues. After visiting Stok Palace, drive to Matho village, 10 km from Stok. Visit Matho monastery built by Lama Tumgpa Dorje in 13th century. The famous two oracles (known as Rongtsan), who were invited from Tibet by the founder of this monastery, still make appearance during the festival of the monastery. After visiting Matho, drive back to Leh. Afternoon, visit Shanti Stupa and Sankar Monastery in Leh. Overnight at hotel in Leh.

 

Day 19: Drive Leh – Shey – Thisey – Hemis – Leh

After breakfast, drive to Hemis monastery which is 45 km far from Leh and it takes 90 minute drives. The great Mahasiddha Staktsang Raspa along with great ancestor Singey Namgyal built this biggest monastery in 16th century. After visiting this monastery, drive back to Thiksey monastery, which is 27 km from Hemis. This monastery is the oldest monastery of Gelugpa sect in Ladakh. The great Lama Paldan Shesrap built in 14th century. Here you visit the big statue of the Future Buddha. After visiting this monastery drive back to Leh via visiting Shey Palace wherein you visit big copper gilt statue of Lord Buddha. Overnight at hotel in Leh.

 

Day 20: Flight Leh to Delhi

Early morning transfer to Airport to take flight for Delhi. Arrive Delhi, transfer to Hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Delhi. (239m)

 

Day 21: Departure.

Morning, post breakfast then visit Old and New Delhi. Late evening, transfer to IGI Airport to take return flight.
