Trekking in Zanskar

 

Chadar Trek (23 Days / 15 Days Trek)

 

Chadar Trek is one of the toughest treks in Ladakh. The total one way distance of this tour is 105 km. Most of the trek is done on the ice of frozen Zanskar River. But some places trekkers must climb icy rocks or routes and in Zanskar itself you can walk through the normal route used by the people daily. The temperature remains –15°c to –20°c during the day time and –25°c to –35°c during the night.

 

Day 01: Arrive Delhi

Transfer to the hotel. Day free. Overnight at hotel in Delhi.

 

Day 02: Flight Delhi – Leh (3500 m)

Early morning transfer to domestic airport for Leh flight. Arrive Leh airport, transfer to hotel. Day free at Leh. Allow the time for acclimatization. Overnight at Hotel in Leh.

 

Day 03: Visit Around Leh

In morning after breakfast, sightseeing around Leh. Evening visit a local family house to show you the Ladakhi tradition and culture. Overnight at the hotel in Leh.

 

Day 04: Drive Leh – Sumdha (Chilling)

After breakfast start the most exciting trip on the Zanskar River. We Drive from Leh to Sumdha-Do to begin with. The road fallow the Indus River for an hour to the confluence of Indus and Zanskar River, then fallow The Zanskar river till Sumdha-Do. We then trek for an hour on and off the frozen river to the village of Chilling. We camp near the village or stay in a family house.

 

Day 05: Trek Chilling – Dakmar Bawo

For the next five days we trek up on the frozen Zanskar river through gorges and deep valleys. There are number of choices for camping, and there for we can make our itinerary during this time as flexible as we like. There are also many caves (locals call it Bawo) which can be used for the night Shelter. Tonight we camp at Dakmar Bawo.

 

Day 06: Trek Dakmar Bawo to Tibbi Bawo camp. (6 hours walk).

 

Day 07: Trek Tibbi Bawo to Nay yakste Bawo camp. (5 – 6 hours walk).

 

Day 08: Trek Nay yakste Bawo to Wamay Bawo camp. (5 hours walk).

 

Day 09: Trek Wamay Bawo to Zangla village stay in a family house. (6 hours walk).

We are now in the Kingdom of Zanskar, where in the past times there use to be two kings in the region, one lived at Zangla and other at Padum (the capital of Zanskar).

 

Day 10: Trek from Zangla to Stongde (5 hours).

We now walking on the normal Trek route and very easy walk. Pass Tsazar village enroute and reach Stongde in the afternoon. We may stay in a family house here at Stongde. The monastery can be visit next day morning.

 

Day 11: Trek from Stonde to Padum (3 hours walk).

After visit Stonde monastery start trek to padum. After 3 hours easy trek you reach to Padum. Padum is also the capital of Zanskar region. You have three days in Padum for explore this area.

 

Day 12: Visit Around Padum by Trek

 

Day 13: Visit Around Padum by Trek

 

Day 14 to 19:

Trek back from Zangla till Chilling on same route. The return trek is apparently quicker and easier. On the 19th day evening we will pick you up from Sumdhado and drive back to Leh. Overnight at Hotel in Leh.

 

Day 20: In Leh Day free at Leh.

One can go for shopping at Leh handicrafts center and in Choglamsar Tibetan handicrafts etc. Overnight at hotel in Leh.

 

Day 21: Leh - Delhi Fly to Delhi in the morning.

Evening free. Overnight at hotel in Delhi.

 

Day 22: Day free in Delhi

After dinner transfer to IGI Airport for the return flight.

 

Day 23: Departure
